This week we caught up with Suki Hillier who has just finished playing Matlida in the West End. Suki was our 2024 Junior Runner Up at West End Calling. Here Suki shares her experience of West End Calling as well as some insights into her Matilda journey.
Why did you enter West End Calling and how was your time performing in the competition?
I have never entered a singing competition before and thought this would be a great experience and opportunity. I love being on stage and West End Calling allowed me to sing my favorite songs. The final was really exciting, I did have a few butterflies beforehand but I felt amazing once I got onto Stage and started to sing.
What is it like playing Matilda in the West End?
I have loved Matilda ever since I was little and I am so grateful to have this amazing opportunity. This is my first West End performance and to play the main role is incredible.
What’s your favourite part of the show?
I love every single moment I have on the stage, but my favourite part of the show is when I strike the Matilda pose at the very end, because it makes me feel really happy when the spotlight is on me.
How do you spend your time outside of performing?
I like spending time with my family, and relaxing. I also love to do my nails! I enjoy painting and throwing my emotions onto a canvas. I have a close connection with animals and I feed my rabbits when I can. I really want to have a dog, but my dad won’t let me.
What would you say to someone thinking of entering?
All I have to say is West End Calling is a great experience, it’s fun and I know you would have a great time on stage doing your thing! If you do enter, show everyone what you’ve got and have the best time on stage! I hope you love your time at West End Calling just as much as I did!
